Crafting a Plan

A plan should include concise, measurable, and achievable goals and objectives that will lead you on the path to success.

I love Fashion. Fast moving, always new and exciting. In contrast crafting, mending and recycling has deeper feeling. It’s not that easy to turn old into new though, let’s face it!

The trend forecasts direct fashion- beautifully prepared presentations to influence colour, texture and style for the designers. Colours are precise so imagine the time it takes to order the yarn, design, manufacture and then sell. Not possible on a Saturday afternoon whichever season it is.. I’m so thankful for slow fashion- I can fit right in!

So one women and several elements to bring together now with a limited palette of yarn and only a few hours to spare; so how can I achieve this?

Keep it simple I’m telling myself again. It is the only way.. I like a challenge don’t I ?

The Stuff of Dreams

We are such stuff / As dreams are made of… A part line from the play ‘The Tempest’, by William Shakespeare

I followed my heart in education. I had little to think of in the beginning other than my dog, design and craft at the local Art College; and collecting; yarns, fabrics, threads, techniques, this, that.. Eventually I specialised in weave.

I love nature and and have photographed a lot of things; often taking this inspiration through to a final piece of work. I spent some time making spiky yarns. There were always certain techniques that I enjoyed; like weaving double cloth and then cutting one of the layers to make a spiky surface. I have always enjoyed challenging the structure of weave. My colour palette allows for this; simple like the life I strive for!

What is it about a weaver though? The counting, ordering, tensioning, checking, getting it right, getting it wrong.. And that’s not including the actual design.

To create though- is the stuff of dreams! ?
